Terming the decision of aligning with BJP last year as "unpopular", Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday sought concrete assurances from the BJP to "carry forward and implement the vision and mission" of late chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in letter and spirit before taking a final call on the government formation in Jammu and Kashmir.

PDP also came up with new set of demands including maintaining the present position on all the constitutional provisions pertaining to J&K including the special status enshrined in the Constitution of India. PDP asked the government to rein in elements which spark controversies and carry forward the reconciliatory mission as enumerated in the Agenda of Alliance

"Mufti Mohammad Sayeed took a courageous, although unpopular, decision of aligning with BJP with the hope that the Central Government headed by Mr Narendra Modi will take decisive measures to address the core political and economic issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir and its people," said Mehbooba Mufti PDP President while addressing a meeting of the party leaders, legislators and office bearers.

"Unfortunately instead of partnering with and implementing Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's vision of bringing peace, stability and prosperity to Jammu and Kashmir, certain quarters, both within Jammu and Kshmir and in New Delhi, started overtly and covertly triggering frequent controversies over avoidable contentious issues resulting in wastage of the state government's energies in firefighting and propitiation," she added.

PDP chief minced no words to call for reassessment over Centre's readiness to trust the people of Jammu and Kashmir and carry out implementation of 'Agenda of Alliance' with sincerity of purpose

"In such volatile circumstances around we will have to reassess whether we can absorb the shocks which Mufti Sahab had to do so frequently in his effort to forge reconciliation between the regions and the people of the State," she said.

Mehbooba said PDP can't form a government just for the sake of power but, if it does, it will be, as envisioned by Mufti Sahab, with the objective of addressing the core political and economic issues confronting J&K as was done by the PDP-led Government between 2002 and 2005.

Enumerating her demands, Mehbooba said the centre shall have to take substantive measures towards implementation of the PDP-BJP "Agenda of Alliance" in the interest of peace and stability.

"It has been further made clear in the Agenda of Alliance that the present position will be maintained on all the constitutional provisions pertaining to J&K including the special status in the Constitution of India," she said.

However main opposition party National Conference was unimpressed saying the PDP's statement following a party meeting is yet another contemptuous attempt to test the patience of the people and the continued and liberal indulgence of the governor of Jammu and Kashmir.

"If PDP wants assurances from the BJP about the 'Agenda of the Alliance' now, what was Mufti Sahab doing for the last ten months while every single political and developmental promise in the CMP was flouted and broken by both parties in carefully cinematographed fixed matches?" asked NC spokesperson Junaid Mattu.

Meanwhile. National Panthers Party has demanded judicial enquiry by three sitting judges of Supreme Court to probe into the death of the chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed last month

NPP patron Bhim Singh Mufti's sudden death needs appropriate enquiry and investigation by the Supreme Court. "President of India should take up the matter in the greater national interest. I will move PIL before Supreme Court if the President of the India/Parliament fails to do so to enquire into the circumstances that led to unfortunate death of State's Chief Minister in the AIIMS", he said
