Allegedly angered by officials' apathy to his application seeking pension under a government scheme for handicapped, a 48-year-old man slashed his own tongue at Telangana secretariat in Hyderabad on Tuesday evening, police said.

Raja Chary, who had applied for pension went to B Block at the secretariat at around 4 PM and after coming out, he took out a shaving blade and suddenly slashed his tongue, Saifabad Police Station Inspector K Poorna Chander said.

"His tongue has not been cut-off...his tongue has suffered injuries resulting in bleeding. The security personnel immediately shifted him to a nearby hospital and his condition is out of danger," Chander told PTI.

According to the Inspector, Raja, a resident of Suraram colony in Jeedimetla here, had suffered burn injuries and subsequently applied for pension under handicapped category. However, it was not sanctioned, he added.

Raja blamed the officials alleging that "no body responded to his application for pension" forcing him to resort to the act, the officer said on the basis of preliminary investigation. Police said a probe is on.
