The episode in Maharashtra Sadan where some of the Shiv Sena MPs had allegedly tried to force food on a Muslim staffer keeping fast rocked the morning hour in Lok Sabha on Wednesday morning.

What caused most embarrassment was the insinuating remark made by South Delhi's BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri, which raised the furore. Parliamentary affairs minister M Venkaiah Naidu intervened and said he does not approve of Bidhuri's behaviour and he would apologise. Bidhuri regretted if he had offended any of the members.

While BJP leaders tried to glide over the issue by keeping mum outside the House, party senior leader LK Advani said that "it was wrong".

Leader of Congress in the House Malikarjun Kharge and Shiv Sena leader Anant Geethe met speaker Sumitra Mahajan in her chamber and she had agreed to allow the matter to be raised during Zero Hour.

The issue was raised by MI Shanavas, the Congress MP from Wayanad in Kerala. He read out from the statement issued by Arshad, the staffer of the Sadan who is alleged to have been force fed in the presence of the media and that his name was written clearly on the badge he was wearing. Parliamentary affairs minister Venkaiah Naidu objected saying that statements of outsiders should not be read in the House, and that it was a sensitive issue which should not be senastionalised.

Shiv Sena leader Ananth Geete tried to deflect the allegation saying that no one should tell a lie in the holy month of Ramzan. He said the party MPs were staying in Maharashtra Sadan and that there were no facilities. The MPs wanted to meet the resident commissioner but could not meet him. He countered the Congress charge and said what was being said was untrue. It is learnt that Congress is getting UPA members to sign a letter addressed to the Speaker seeking a probe.
