Even as the Rajya Sabha witnessed disruptions over Kumari Selja's allegations of being discriminated over her caste at a Gujarat temple, BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijaywargiya on Thursday accused the Congress leader of making false charges in order to grab party Vice President Rahul Gandhi's attention.

"Selja, only to grab the attention of Rahul (keval Rahul ki nazron mein aane ke liye), made a statement that she was asked about her caste. Parliament's forum is not meant for giving false statements. False allegations will lower the dignity of the House," Vijaywargiya told reporters here when asked about Selja's remarks. "Those making statements on the issue of intolerance are lowering the prestige of the country in the eyes of the world," the controversial BJP leader said.

Former Union Minister Kumari Selja had created a stir by claiming that she was asked about her caste when she had visited a temple in Dwarka town of Gujarat as a Minister during UPA rule. Vijaywargiy , known for his controversial statements, was recently in news for slamming Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan over his remarks on intolerance in India. "Shahrukh Khan lives in India, but his heart is always in Pakistan," he had tweeted, triggering a controversy.

Earlier, laying the foundation stone for the proposed Shaheed Park on Ring Road here, Vijaywargiya, a former Mayor of Indore, said people's representatives should work hard with full might for the development of the city without any concern for what others were saying. "Development of the city won't take place by looking at book of rules and regulations. We have to see the need of the people and to fulfil that is our responsibility. People have voted for us as they want us to solve their problems. If required we will reform the rules," he said.

Vijaywargiya suggested that in order to permanently solve the problem of littering on the green belt land, low-cost gardens for marriage ceremonies should be constructed.
