Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday said he would maintain silence on the row over providing help in the Kulbhushan Jadhav issue. After reports did the rounds that the former under-secretary general at the United Nations would help with drafting a resolution on Kulbhushan Jadhav, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had tweeted that this was untrue.
Earlier in the day, responding to an article by a leading English channel, Sushma Swaraj had said that the reports were completely false and mischievously planted in the media.
However, when the Congress MP was asked to clarify on the media reports by a twitter user, Tharoor said, "I believe one shouldn't talk about what was said and done in private. Others may have their reasons to tweet. I have maintained my silence, and dignity.
Further stating that he will be available whenever India needs him, he said, "I place national interests over political ones or personal pride."

On Monday, Pakistan sentenced Kulbhushan Jadhav to death for allegedly carrying out espionage and sabotage activities in Balochistan and Karachi, the military's media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
According to ISPR, Jadhav alias Hussein Mubarak Patel was arrested on March 3, 2016 from Mashkel area of Balochistan for his "involvement in espionage and sabotage actives" in Pakistan's restive Balochistan province and Karachi city.
In response, Swaraj had said in Parliament, "Under these circumstances, we have no choice but to regard the sentence, if carried out, as an act of pre-meditated murder." She had added that the sentence by the Pakistani Military Court was based on "concocted charges."
