Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today directed officials to take steps for expeditious completion of construction of all the proposed thermal power plants in the state.

He also asked PSU major BHEL, which took up construction of thermal power plants, to speed up its work.

"Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao reiterated that Telangana should become a power surplus state by completing all the proposed thermal power plants on a fast track.

"The CM wanted BHEL, which took the responsibility of construction of thermal power plants, should speed up its work," a release from Rao's office said.

Rao, who is on a visit to Delhi, held a meeting with state officials and also BHEL Chairman Atul Sobti on thermal power plants, it said.

Rao instructed that the 800 MW thermal power plant in Yadadri Kothagudem district should be completed by year-end.

The 1080 MW Bhadradri Thermal Power Station (BTPS) at Manuguru should also be completed on a fast track.

Works on 4000 MW Yadadri Ultra Mega power project at Damaracharla should begin soon and the project should be completed in six months, Rao said.

Noting that all the power generation projects and plants are handed over to the PSUs, he expressed satisfaction over their performance, the release said.

"The CM has expressed satisfaction that the PSUs like the BHEL and Genco are living up to the expectations of the government in setting up these plants and generating power," it said.
