Jadavpur University: Standoff between ABVP supporters led by BJP leader Roopa Ganguly and JU students

Four outsiders, kept hostage inside campus, were handed over to the police.

A massive standoff is underway at Jadavpur University between ABVP supporters, led by BJP leader Roopa Ganguly, and JU students. Ganguly arrived at the university gates a little after 10 pm on Friday and registered protest against the scuffle that took place on campus earlier in the day. According to ANI, Ganguly and the ABVP activists forcibly trying to enter the campus.

Students of Jadavpur University have caught hold of four outsiders accused of molesting two students on campus during filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri's visit to the varsity on Friday. The four outsiders, held hostage by the university students, were handed over to the police.

A scuffle had broken out between Jadavpur University students and ABVP supporters in the evening and several outsiders were chased away by the JU students. While the University's student union members claim that several outsiders who were accompanying the Agnihotri allegedly molested two students, ABVP supporters claim that they were beaten up by university students.

The four outsiders were caught and kept hostage at the Aurobindo Bhawan inside the campus. The students negotiated with the university authorities and demanded that the four be handed over to the police. 

Agnihotri was on campus to attend the screening of his film Buddha in a Traffic Jam which was cancelled at the last minute by authorities after students decided to organise in protest over it. Agnihotri decided to go ahead with the screening but was gheraoed by the students. As soon as Agnihotri reached the campus, he was shown black flags and placards by the students of Jadavpur University urging him to go back. Several RSS supporters had accompanied him to the university.
