The BJP on Monday attacked the Hemant Soren-led government in Jharkhand for "protecting" ministers under scanner in different cases and threatened agitation till they resigned from the cabinet.

"The Chief Minister has no courage to drop tainted ministers because the government is being run by remote control," Union Minister of State for Petroleum (Independent charge) Dharmendra Pradhan said in Ranchi.

"A minister even has links with an extremist group," he said while addressing a party meeting in the presence of BJP president Amit Shah. Appealing to the people to vote for a strong government in the Assembly elections to be held this year, Pradhan said Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished a strong Jharkhand which could overtake the developed states.

Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said, "Ministers, government officials and judges are facing charges. But the Chief Minister is not feeling it necessary to ask them to resign." Sinha also sought permission from Shah for an agitation by the party till the "tainted" ministers resigned.

They were referring to two ministers, a few judicial and government officials under scanner in the Tara Shahdeo case and another minister facing charges for his alleged links with the Jharkhand Tiger group.

In his speech, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Sudarshan Bhagat said, "Not a day passes without an incident being reported from Jharkhand under the JMM-Congress-RJD government. A change is necessary to have same governments at the Centre as well as the state." Giving credit to BJP veterans Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani for Jharkhand's creation, party national vice-president Raghuvar Das said the state's creation remained incomplete insofar as people's aspirations.

"Some good work did happen in Jharkhand though not to the expectation of the people because of political instability," claimed Das, referring to BJP's stints in power. Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda charged the Hemant Soren government with loot of coal, iron ore and minor mineral sand.
