If you are planning a vacation, then flying to a foreign destination would cost you less than the domestic destinations. The airfares for domestic towns are soaring. The airline operators have hiked their fares for domestic destinations due to high rush in the ongoing tourist season.

Flying to Mumbai or Goa is more costly than flying to Dubai or Sharjah. That’s why people are preferring foreign destinations for vacations.

Tarun Jain, a travel planner, said, “Concept of low cost airfare has just vanished. Tours to domestic towns are going to be expensive due to high airfares. Airline operators have increased fares for domestic cities. Two to three years back, fare prices were much less, which prompted people to travel by air. But now, fare prices for domestic towns like Mumbai, Bangalore, Goa and Hyderabad are very high.”

While talking about airlines which have recently started operations, he said, “The AirAsia is offering low fares to international destinations like Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. It is charging between Rs4,500 and Rs8,409. This airline is operating from Chennai, Tiruchirappalli and Bangalore. Even from Jaipur, the fare for Air Arabia flight to Sharjah is just Rs7,703 on bookings made a fortnight in advance.” He further said, “Dubai-bound flights are charging Rs8,089 on prior booking. Tickets to destinations like Bangkok and Singapore are available between Rs13,477 and Rs14,000 from Jaipur on connecting flights as there are no direct flights to these cities from the state capital.” Tickets for Mumbai-bound flights are ranging between Rs7,362 and Rs12,055 for different flights. A total of nine flights fly to Mumbai daily from Jaipur.

Fare on Goa-bound flights starts from Rs9,905 while for Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kolkata, the airfare is between Rs8,950 and Rs9,800. “I feel that to promote tourism, airlines should provide low cost tickets. Financial year 2012-13 witnessed a dip in number of flyers at Jaipur Airport,” said Suresh N Borkar, director, Jaipur airport.
