Bhavna Arora who splattered ink on chief minister Arvind Kejriwal at a public rally on Sunday was denied bail by a magistrate at a Delhi court and remanded to 14 days judicial custody. The Delhi Police taking a tough stand has charged her under sections IPC 186 353,355 and 504, bailable offenses, that are related to obstruction to work of a public servant.

While attacks on Kejriwal in public are not new, the police and the court's reaction could be viewed as 'harsh', especially comparing to the fate and outcome of those who attacked the CM on earlier occasions.

Though this is the first attack on Kejriwal since he became CM, he has been subjected to slaps, ink and even eggs thrown at him in public on a few other occasions. Nachiketa Vaghrekar, who claimed to be the general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Ahmednagar unit in Maharashtra, had thrown black paint on Kejriwal and other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders at a press conference presided by Kejriwal in November 2013. He was arrested by the Delhi Police though he was soon out on bail when the treasurer of BJP's New Delhi district Yashpal Varma furnished a bail bond for him.

When Kejriwal was campaigning against prime minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi in March 2014, he was greeted with eggs, which is being denied by the Uttar Pradesh police and ink by unidentified men. It is unclear if the culprits were ever arrested or any case registered against them.

In Delhi, while campaigning, Kejriwal was punched in the back by Abdul Wahid as he was greeting supporters in the Dakshinpuri area in April 2014. Though the police registered a case against him, it is unclear of he was ever arrested.

At another instance, merely four days after being punched, Lali, an autorickshaw driver slapped Arvind Kejriwal during his campaign in Sultanpuri. Lali had tendered an apology to the now CM the next day and although Kejriwal had 'forgiven' him, the Delhi Police had registered a case against Lali without arresting him. It is interesting to note that a few days after these incidents, Kejriwal visited the two attackers at their residence and forgave them.
