The US-India Business Council (USIBC) on Monday launched a task force on civil aviation, which has been tasked with identifying opportunities to aid the implementation of the National Civil Aviation Policy (NCAP).

USIBC is the largest bilateral trade association in the United States, with a presence in Washington DC, New York, Silicon Valley, Chicago and New Delhi.

Palash Roy Chowdhury, Managing Director-India, Pratt & Whitney, will be the Chairman, while Amber Dubey, partner and head of aerospace and defense, KPMG will be the co-chairman spearheading the initiative, a statement from USIBC stated.

"India has witnessed annual growth exceeding 20 per cent in domestic traffic with the total passenger traffic estimated to reach 270 million by the end of 2017. The task force will engage with various stakeholders to promote international best practices and address potential hurdles that surface as American and Indian companies deepen engagement in India's burgeoning civil aviation market," the statement read.

USIBC president Mukesh Aghi said, "Our member companies are committed to the success of the government's flagship programmes such as the Regional Connectivity Scheme and Make In India, and bringing the best in technology in related areas such as airport infrastructure and security, MROs and skill development."

"The India-Task Force aims to promote bilateral dialogue by being the voice of industry, partnering with governments to organise trade missions and advocating for regulatory changes on behalf of its members," the statement mentioned.

Formed in 1975 at the request of the US and Indian governments, the USIBC is the premier business advocacy organisation, comprised of top US and Indian companies advancing US-India commercial ties.
