Days after two BJP workers were found hanging from a tree and a high-tension wire in West Bengal’s Purulia district, another ruling party supporter was attacked in Cooch Behar.

According to news agency ANI, the victim has been identified as one Narayan Sarkar. He was shot at in Cooch Behar on Sunday night. At present, the victim is being treated at a hospital in Siliguri, the news agency reported on Monday.

This is third such attack on BJP supporters in a week. On May 31st, the body of 18-year-old Trilochan Mahato, member of the district BJP youth wing was found hanging in Purulia’s Supurdi village with a message on his T Shirt saying it was the result of him supporting BJP.

On Saturday, 32-year-old Dulal Kumar’s body was found hanging from a high-tension electric pole in district’s Dabha village of Balarampur area.

Despite the claims of the family members, the Purilia SP has said that Dulal Kumar committed suicide.

Newly-appointed Purulia Superintendent of Police (SP) Akash Magharia said a team of five doctors conducted the post-mortem of Kumar's body.

"The post-mortem report said it was a case of asphyxia due to ante-mortem hanging and suicidal in nature," Magharia was quoted as saying by PTI.

The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal replaced Joy Biswas as the SP of the district and appointed Magharia in his place, following the two back-to-back incidents.

The BJP has alleged the deaths are "political murders" and demanded a CBI inquiry into the incidents.

The alleged killings have triggered another round of face-off between the TMC and the BJP, which has emerged as a formidable challenger to the ruling party in the state after last month's panchayat polls.

Meanwhile, the CPM has also said that workers of Trinamool Congress have attacked a party worker in the state's Coochbehar district.

Taking to Twitter, the CPI (M) said, "Atabul Islam, a student leader of CPIM had won the Panchayat Polls from Jamaldaha, Mekhliganj in face of grave threats from TMC goons. Today  TMC goons attacked his house in Coochbehar, Bengal. His uncle Ramjan Ali was shot dead and 7 family members including himself and his father are in a critical condition in the hospital.
