Not only is government looking to contain Indians from joining ISIS, it is also looking to stop citizens from joining the war against the dreaded terror organisation.

According to an Indian Express report, government has submitted an affidavit in the Delhi High Court where the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) clearly mentions that it doesn't want Indians to get involved in the Middle East crisis. According to them, Indian citizens getting involved in war against ISIS may have ramifications back home in India.

According to the government, there is a chance of sectarian war in India if Indians go on a rampage against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. “Allowing any sect to take part in the conflict in Iraq/Syria would have had repercussions on other sects in India", says the MHA advisory.

The government believes that even joining fight against ISIS is a 'terrorist activity' which can negatively affect India's relations with friendly countries.

Recently organisations like All India Shia Hussaini Fund and All India Shia Federation adopted a resolution seeking volunteers willing to fight against ISIS. Delhi based lawyer Mehmood Pracha had filed a petition challenging a look-out circular against him and other members of Anjuman-e- Haideri (AeH). The government's affidavit was in response to the notice served to them by HC.

According to Pracha, they were stopped by the government from going to Iran for a humanitarian purpose. He was offloaded from plane in New Delhi airport on November last year. In May, government agreed to expunge the offloaded endorsement and also gave permission for conditional travel to Iraq. Pracha was asked to submit an undertaking that the journey is for pilgrimage only and that it will not affect peace within India.

The government cited an IB advisory to defend its stance against Pracha saying they had inputs that he was going to Iraq to fix modalities of travelling of volunteers from Iraq to India.
