The Ahmedabad District collector on Sunday rejected the allegations levelled by Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leader Hardik Patel, saying they are baseless and no clarification was required.

Patel has alleged that with the help of 140 software engineers, efforts were being made to hack the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) source code.

In a tweet, he had also alleged that efforts were largely made to tamper EVMs in Patel and Adivasi assembly constituency areas.

However, reacting to the allegations made by Patel, Ahmedabad Collector Avantika Singh said, "These are baseless allegations. I don't think any clarification is needed. Even if any clarification is to be issued, it will be issued by EC."

On Saturday, Patel had also questioned Supreme Court's decision to reject Congress' plea, seeking cross-verification of Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trails with votes cast with Electronic Voting Machines and asked why they were used in the Gujarat elections.

"Why are VVPATs used in the first place? It is used for smooth counting of votes wherever there is a fault. I do not understand Supreme Court's stand on the issue," he said.

He also said if EVMs were not tampered with then the exit polls' results, which showed Bharatiya Janata Party's victory in the state polls, would be proven wrong.

"If EVMs do not malfunction then BJP will lose the election. I have 100% doubt on EVMs," he said.

The voting for the two-phase Gujarat Assembly election ended on Thursday and counting of votes will be held on December 18.
