Taking cognisance of media reports that three persons of a private coaching institute had allegedly molested and manhandled a woman teacher, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has written to the Union Home Minister demanding immediate arrest of the accused.

"The DCW is deeply pained and shocked to see the clipping on all television news channels on March 31 showing forcible taking of pictures through mobile by one... and on resistance, the victim professor being beaten and assaulted," DCW chairperson Barkha Shukla Singh said in her letter.

The woman teacher of chemistry has lodged a complaint with DCW stating that in July 2014 she came to know about some financial irregularities in the institute, following which the centre's administrator started harassing her.

The teacher alleged that she was abused by a teacher from English department on November 2 and two days later this teacher and the coaching head entered her cabin and while she was talking to them, there were attempts to film her. When she tried to snatch the mobile, she was slapped and manhandled.

The administration head told her to sign a settlement letter as he assured her that the matter will be settled. But according to her complaint the institute refused to redress her problem and she filed a case.

On January 6, the institute transferred her to Noida, 40 kms away from her place of residence along with blocking her salary for the last more than three months in violation of the norms of Vishaka guidelines.

"The Commission has taken serious view of this incident of this women professor's modesty being outraged and no action taken against the culprits. I, on behalf of the Commission, request you to issue immediate necessary directives to the concerned authorities to arrest the culprits, release the salary of the victimised professor, revocation of her suspension and cancellation of the transfer orders to Noida with immediate effect," the DCW chief said in her letter to Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
