Hapa-Tirunelveli express diverted by Southern Railway

The Southern Railway has diverted the Hapa-Tiruneveli Express train following derailment of a passenger train, in which 17 people were killed and 120 injured, in Maharashtra's Raigad district today.

"Due to derailment of a train between Nagotane-Roha section in Ratnagiri division, Hapa-Tirunelveli Express which left Hapa on May 3rd and scheduled to arrive Tirunelveli tomorrow is diverted via Panvel junction, Karjat junction, Pune, Miraj, Londa, Madgoan," Southern Railway said in a statement.

The original route of the train bound for Tirunelveli was Surat, Roha, Savantwadi Road, it said. The accident occurred just outside a tunnel near Nidi village, when the engine and four out of 20 bogies of Diwa-Sawantwadi passenger train derailed between Nagothane and Roha railway stations, about 120 km from Mumbai.
