Gurugram: Rains cause massive traffic jams; police asks people from Delhi to stay away

Commuters faced heavy traffic jam in Gurugram on Delhi-Jaipur highway following monsoon showers. ANI reported that the highway was jammed on Friday due to water logging following monsoon showers.

The District Magistrate directed all schools in Gurugram to remain closed on July 29 and 30 in view of the unprecedented rainfall. He also ordered emergency requisition of infrastructure equipment.

Haryana Chief Secretary called an emergency meeting on the issue of waterlogging in the city.

The police reported that vehicles had broken down at Hero Honda Chowk on NH8 and had been removed. The highway was flooded but heavy vehicles were being allowed to pass from there.

Gurugram has been facing massive traffic jams since Thursday evening following the rains. Hundreds were stuck in traffic for hours with over four feet of water reported in parts of the expressway.

On Thursday night, the Gurgaon Police Twitter handle tweeted saying, "NH8 Jaipur traffic is completely blocked at HeroHonda Chowk due to flooding in Badshahpur drain and gates of Najafgarh drain closed by Delhi. To clear the NH8 jam several teams of police officers led by DCPs working right now. Expect to divert all stuck vehicles in next 2 hours."
