Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday kicked off his three-day tour of south Gujarat targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and mocked ease of doing business saying, BJP is going to get a jolt on election day.

Rahul made the comment after India jumped 30 places to rank 100th in the World Bank's 'ease of doing business' ranking, sending the jubilant government to vow to continue reforms that will help the country break into top 50 in coming years.

Reacting to the development, Modi had said the government is determined to further improve the rankings and scale greater economic growth with the mantra of 'reform, perform and transform'.

However, addressing a rally, Rahul said, "There is no ease of doing business in India....Note ban and GST have destroyed the economy... BJP is going to get a jolt on the day of the election" (Hindustan mein ease of doing business nahi hai, note bandhi aur GST ne barbaad kar diya. BJP ko current lagne wala hai Gujarat ke chunaav ke din).

Before addressing a rally, in a tweet, he said, "Everyone knows the truth but let Arun Jaitley be happy."

The Congress leader also raised the issue of 'crony capitalism' and said, "In Gujarat, 90% of colleges are in the hands of big industrialists...poor cannot afford because of the high fees."

Targetting Prime Minister Narendra Modi,  Rahul said, " Your land was given to Tata for Nano...Gujarat farmers loan could have been waived off with Rs 33,000 crore."

"Modi government is in power for the last 3 years but how many Swiss account holders are in jail," he further asked.

Rahul is visiting a region where his party has seen diminishing returns in the past few elections. In the 2012 elections, the Congress had won just six out of 32 Assembly seats in south Gujarat, comprising Bharuch, Tapi, Surat, Navsari, Valsad and Dangs.

On the second day of his visit, Gandhi is slated to address a women's meet in Vyara. He would also pay a visit to the famous Unai Mata temple, which is known for its hot water springs. Meetings with anganwadi workers and tribals and a dialogue with industry leaders are also on the cards.

On Day 3 of his tour, he will cover Valsad, Navsari and Surat city, interact with farmers, fishermen and women.

The key highlight of his three-day tour, which incidentally will be his last public engagement of the visit, is the public meeting at Varachha Road in Surat.
