The Amber maotha (lake) and Sagar have got a new lease of life during this monsoon season.
The water bodies are brimming with water. Now, the Eco-Development Board has released a fund of Rs55 lakh to develop the twin water bodies as eco-tourism sites. “Both the water bodies have historical significance. They were used for storing water for summer season.
They also add to the scenic beauty of Amber Fort,” said the officials of Eco-Development Board. “These factors were taken into consideration and it was decided that both the places would be developed as eco-tourism sites to attract visitors. It would also generate revenue for the government,” said officials. The fund of Rs55 lakh will be used for beautification of the two places.
Their water-holding capacity will also be increased.
“The walls at Sagar have developed cracks. They will be repaired. As the lake belongs to the irrigation department, the amount for repairing the walls would be provided through the archaeology department. The lake water recharges the nearby wells. The forest department is developing an eco-tourism track to attract visitors,” said Rakesh Shrivastav, principal secretary, tourism.
