A man hurled a shoe at Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, when the latter was addressing protesters at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi. Fadnavis had just offered social activist Anna Hazare coconut water to end his seven-day long fast. Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was also present on stage and it is unclear whom the shoe was aimed at.
The man was identified as Rajkumar Soni who had contested polls for the chairmanship of Robertson municipality as an Aam Aadmi Party candidate. However, he did not win. Soni was whisked away by the police.
Soni has been pressing for walls to be built along the borders to stop infiltration from neighbouring countries. He had earlier met Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Soni reached Delhi on Wednesday and was expecting support from Anna for the cause. However, Fadnavis announced that Anna has accepted the proposed draft of the Jan Lokpal and Lokayutas Act and will be withdrawing the protest. Soni was disappointed and hurled the shoe at the stage.
