An FIR was registered against BJP MLA Dinanath Bhaskar for allegedly thrashing the presiding Officer of booth no.359 in Aurai assembly constituency under Bhadohi Lok Sabha constituency.

Bhadohi went to polls in the sixth phase of Lok Sabha election held on Sunday.

"MLA and three others thrashed him alleging voting being held at a slow pace. An FIR has been registered and action is being taken," Police told ANI.

The Lok Sabha seat is currently held by BJP's Virendra Singh Mast. The BJP has not re-nominated Mast from here as he has been shifted to contest from Ballia Lok Sabha seat. The party has instead fielded Rameshchand Bind who is facing BSP's Rangnath Mishra and Congress' Ramakant Yadav, a Bahubali from Azamgarh who recently left the BJP after being denied ticket.

The parliamentary constituency comprises two Assembly segments of Allahabad district - Pratappur and Handia - and three from Bhadohi district - Bhadohi, Gyanpur and Aurai (SC).

Meanwhile, Congress' district in Bhadohi, Neelam Mishra, quit the party on Sunday. "Lok Sabha ticket was given to an outsider Ramakant Yadav who came from BJP. It was a huge blow for us. In a meeting, we tried to talk to Priyanka Gandhi about it. But she got upset & said insulting things," she said.

In sixth phase of Lok Sabha polling, 14 seats in Uttar Pradesh - Sultanpur, Pratapgarh, Phulpur, Allahabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Shrawasti, Domariyaganj, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Lalganj, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Machhlishahr and Bhadohi - went to polls.

The counting of votes of the Lok Sabha election 2019 will be conducted on May 23.
