Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday attacked the Union Government over "rise" in the prices of essential commodities and claimed that anti-poor policies of the BJP-led government has led to the situation in which poor would be the worst sufferers in the near future.

During the Lok Sabha polls, an atmosphere was created in the country in favour of a particular individual as if he has a magic wand with which he could make all the problems of the people vanish, Hooda said.

"On the contrary, the decisions taken by the Central government during the last two months have only increased inflation. Prices of diesel and sugar have increased and rail passenger fares have been hiked considerably. The farmers and the poor would be the worst sufferers in the near future due to the anti-poor policies being pursued by the Modi government," he said. Hooda exuded confidence that the Congress would form government in Haryana for the third consecutive term.

The Chief Minister was addressing a public gathering after laying the foundation stone of Regional Centre of Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya at a village of Rewari district on Monday. He said that if the developmental works undertaken in the Kosli Assembly area of Rewari during the last nine years are excluded from the list, there would be nothing to show in the name of development there.

"During the tenure of INLD-BJP government from 1999 to 2005, only Rs 457.15 crore was spent on development works in Rewari district whereas the present state government has spent Rs 3,844.64 crore during the last nine years on the development of the district.

"Similarly, only Rs 105.80 crore was spent during the tenure of INLD-BJP government in the Kosli area while the present government has spent Rs 978.13 crore," he said. Speaking on the occasion, Rohtak MP and Chief Minister's son Deepender Singh Hooda said that the regional centre would prove to be a milestone on the road to educating the people of the area.
