Prominent real-estate developer DS Kulkarni and his wife Hemanti have been detained by Pune police in Delhi and soon they will be brought back to Pune after completing the process of their arrest.

On Thursday, the Bombay High Court had withdrawn the interim protection of DS Kulkarni popularly known as DSK and his wife.

According to the Pune police officials, after the interim protection was withdrawn, DSK left Pune city and he was not traceable.

To trace DSK, the Economic Offense Wing (EOW) of Pune police had formed four teams and he was found at one of the hotels in Delhi.

"Today early morning, our teams detained Kulkarni and his wife from Delhi. At present, the procedure of his arrest is going on. After the formal arrest, the couple will be brought back to Pune for further investigation," Deputy Commissioner of Police Pankaj Dahane who has an additional charge of EOW told DNA.

The action against DSK and his wife has been taken by the police after EOW received nearly 4,000 complaints against the couple in last few months.

The complainants are mostly depositors who had deposited money with DSK and the builder had promised to pay them the interest of 14% on their deposits. However, since last year, his financial condition started deteriorating and he failed to pay the interest on the deposits. When depositors started queueing up at his office, asking him to return their money.

According to EOW officials, DSK has to return nearly Rs 230 crore to his Fixed deposit holders.

The EOW has registered a case of cheating against DSK under section 420, 406 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Police also added section 3 and 4 of the Maharashtra Protection of Interest of Depositors (MPID) against him and his wife.

Fearing arrest, DSK had approached Pune sessions court with an anticipatory bail plea but his plea was rejected by the court. After that, he approached the Bombay High Court. The court had given interim protection which was withdrawn on Thursday.
