The ministry is fine tuning the list of new members to be nominated in to the committee. Indumati Rao of Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore, Chandrakala Padia of Indian Institute of Advanced Studies, Shimla, Sanjeev Bikhchandani of Naukri.com and Rohan Murthy of Infosys are expected to be introduced in the committee.
Both Setalvad and Shastri were known to share proximity with the Congress and will be axed. The BJP has its own list of scholars from various educational institutions who are associated with the RSS. At least two members from RSS education wing are also expected to be in the panel. "The idea is to have people from all walks of life. We are having a holistic approach," said a source.
CABE is the policy making advisory body of the ministry. The committee has representatives of the central organisation, universities, state and bodies including planning commission, NGOs and civic society.
The CABE committee is generally made for three years. The previous committee had last met in October 2013. The new government is yet to call for a CABE meeting. The meeting is expected to happen sometime next month. This will be the first CABE meeting of the NDA government and several new introductions and revamping of the policies are the agenda of the meeting.
Besides reviewing the policy, this time the decision on compulsory reintroducing the board examination for class 10, is also going to be discussed. HRD minister Smriti Irani has also hinted that the ministry wants back to reintroduced boards in class 10. "The feedback that we have got from the various stakeholders suggest that schools and states manipulate the results of class 10. The students are under immense pressure to face the board examination in class 12," said a senior functionary.
