Pakistani troops heavy shelled forward posts and villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir overnight, police said on Sunday.

The shelling from across the border in Balakote sector started late Saturday night and continued for over two hours, a police official told news agency. Indian troops effectively retaliated.

There was no immediate report of any casualty or damage in the shelling, the official said adding forward villages and posts were targeted by Pakistan during the ceasefire violation. There has been a spurt in ceasefire violations along the LoC and International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir this year.

The Pakistan Army on Tuesday morning also resorted to an unprovoked and indiscriminate firing at Manjakote sector of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Pakistan army used small arms, automatics weapons and mortars in along the Line of Control (LoC).

Indian army is retaliating effectively and strongly.

On February 25, the Pakistan Army at around 4:40 p.m. resorted to an unprovoked and indiscriminate firing at Nowshera in Jammu and Kashmir.

Unprovoked firing and shelling from Pakistani posts have become recurrent over the last few weeks.

The recent spate of ceasefire violation incidents has left four security personnel killed and dozens of civilians injured in Rajouri, Baramullah, Kathua, Kupwara and the Valley.

Despite this, Pakistan summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner J P Singh here for the fifth time in a month and condemned alleged firing across Line of Control by Indian forces.

The Pakistan Foreign Office said Director General (SA & SAARC) Mohammad Faisal summoned Singh over "unprovoked ceasefire violations" by Indian forces on Feb 23 in Nikial sector.

Faisal said the firing killed a man in Thurti Narr village located some 1,200 meters from the LoC and three other people were injured.

The Foreign Office had earlier summoned India's deputy high commissioner on February 5, 15, 20 and 22.

"This unprecedented escalation in ceasefire violations by India is continuing from the year 2017 when Indian forces committed more than 1,970 ceasefire violations," he claimed.

He said the alleged ceasefire violations by India are a threat to regional peace and security and may lead to a strategic miscalculation.
