CBI crackdown on bank loan defaulters

The agency carried out searches at around 50 locations in 18 cities across 12 states

In a nationwide crackdown, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registers 14 new fraud cases on the complaints of various banks for defrauding them to the tune of Rs 1,114.06 crore. The agency carried out searches at around 50 locations in 18 cities across 12 states.

The raids were carried out at 48 places, including Delhi, Mumbai, Ludhiana, Thane, Valsad, Pune, Palani, Gaya, Gurugram, Chandigarh, Bhopal, Surat, Kollar, Silvasa, Aligarh, Fazilka, Muktsar, Bhawanigarh against the accused including various companies, their Promoters/Directors; bank officials and unknown others, CBI said.

The first case was based on complainant of Exim Bank. It stated that Winsome Diamonds and it owner, including Jatin Mehta carried out fraud of Rs 202 crore.

A PLAINT BY SBI

In another a trader had duped SBI of Rs 143.25 crore. It was alleged that Supreme Tex Mart Ludhiana carried out the fraud. The agency said that MD Ajay Gupta and many others were involved

Another case was based of Bank of India complaint. It stated that Eskey Knit wrongful caused a loss of Rs 91.36 crore. "Searches at various places in at accused persons, including Chairman Navin Kumar Tayal, MD Anand Javar, Naresh Chandra Sharma Director, Trivendra Shambhu Singh Director, Manmohan Balbir Ahluwalia Director, Praveen Kumar Tayal as guarantor, Ram Pratap Tayal guarantor, unidentified public servants," said a senior IPS officer.

Similarly another case was based on SBI complaint of duping Rs 143.25 crore. It was alleged that Supreme Tex Mart Ludhiana carried out the fraud. The agency said that MD Ajay Gupta, Director Gautam Gupta, Sanjay Gupta shareholder of Gold Leaf International Pvt Ltd and unknown public servants were involved in corrupt practices.

Unlike SBI various other banks had filed a complaint with CBI, following which the agency carried out raids.
