On the second day of his two-day trip to West Bengal, BJP national president Amit Shah on Thursday said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's government will be brought down by the blood of martyred BJP workers.

Speaking at Balarampur in Purulia district on Thursday, Shah started his address by asking the audience to chant ‘Bharat Maata ki jai’. To garner a stronger response he then asked the audience to cheer loudly. “Aise nhi. Kolkata tak, behri Mamata Banerjee sarkar ke kaano mein goonjni chahiye,” (not like this. The sound should echo in the ears of deaf Mamata Banerjee government in Kolkata)."

“If Mamata thinks that her rule will continue in West Bengal by unleashing a reign of terror, I challenge her from this stage in Purulia that the blood of martyred BJP workers will pull down her government. You may continue to murder, threat and implicate our workers in false cases,” Shah said.

Shah had visited Tarapith temple in the morning ahead of the public meeting. “I have prayed to Tara Maa to give us strength to bring about a change in the government of West Bengal,” he said.

Coming down heavily upon Mamata, he said that there had been no industry in Bengal other than that of making bombs and in the noise of exploding bombs the sound of Rabindra Sangeet, which has been Bengal’s culture, had been obliterated.

Referring to the posters claiming development of Bengal under the leadership of Mamata, Shah said, “For my convenience, they have put up banners and hoardings in Hindi on both sides of the road in Birbhum. Those said that the state had been developing under Mamata but had that been the case, why do people in Purulia have to walk for five kilometre to fetch drinking water? At the time of the Independence, the contribution of Bengal in the country’s GDP was 25% and after the misrule of Left and the TMC, it has now come down to 4%. When Mamata government came to power the state had procured loan of Rs 2 lakh crore. Now the figure stands at Rs 3.5 lakh crore.”

He also alleged that the Modi government had allotted Rs 3.6 lakh crore to the state for various developmental project which the state government had siphoned off. “There has been no development in terms of road, water and school. What happened to the money which the Centre had sent?” he asked.

Shah said that during the TMC rule there had been a lot of cross-border infiltration from Bangladesh. “If you vote for the BJP and it comes to power, infiltration can be controlled. The government of chit fund and syndicate should go and the mafia raj should end as well. She is visiting Delhi to form a front against the Central government but she should know that she is losing ground here in Bengal,” Shah said amidst thunderous applause.

TMC leaders were quick to come with a rebuttal. “Only because there is Mamata government, anyone can come here and put up a meeting,” said party TMC general secretary Subrata Bakshi.

“Empty vessels sound much. They should try to retain power at the Centre before claiming that they will win Bengal,” TMC secretary general and state minister Partha Chatterjee said.
