Stressing that the BJP would not allow the dilution of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act or scrapping of caste-based quotas, party president Amit Shah today said the party’s “golden age” would begin after seizing power in West Bengal and Odisha.

He also shows confidence in BJP's ability to secure a thumping majority in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

He also lashed out at Congress president Rahul Gandhi and charged that he was being needled by NCP chief Sharad Pawar to attack the BJP.

“Lies are being spread… Rahul Baba says the SC/ ST act is being demolished. The SC/ ST act is not being demolished. (Allegations are being made that) reservations will be done way with. Rahulji and  (NCP chief Sharad) Pawar saheb, hear with your ears open. The BJP will never allow reservations to be done away with. Not just this, if you do end (quotas), the BJP will not allow you to do so,” said Shah, listing the development of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s memorial in the Indu mills in Mumbai as one of their achievements.

The BJP chief's remarks came in the backdrop of the recent controversy and agitation after a Supreme Court ruling regarding the SC/ST Act, which is seen by many as dilution of the law.

Addressing a rally in Mumbai on BJP's Foundation Day, he equated opposition parties with 'snakes', 'mongoose', 'dogs' and 'cats' who are trying to form a coalition to prevent the BJP from coming to power in 2019.

Shah tried to underplay the BJP’s loss of two Lok Sabha seats in the by-polls in Uttar Pradesh. “Rahul Baba, we lost the seats, but your party forfeited its security deposit. We have seen the first leader who distributes sweets after his party’s defeat,” he scoffed, while listing out states where the BJP had trounced the Congress to capture power.

“I am calling on all BJP workers. This is not the BJP’s golden age. The BJP’s golden age will arrive when we win Odisha, Bengal and the 2019 (Lok Sabha) elections with a complete majority and form a NDA government. In Maharashtra, a NDA government will be formed under the BJP,” said Shah.

“I was listening to Rahul Baba now. Rahul Baba has been sitting for few days with Pawar saheb. He has been given an injection by Pawar saheb. So he was loudly asking (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi ji about what he has done in four-and-half years. Rahul Baba, you are questioning Modiji?... The people are asking you to account for four generations (of Congress rule),” he added, while listing out schemes launched by the Centre for the welfare of weaker sections which had not been done by the Congress.

Shah charged that the opposition, which included parties which were at odds with each other, had come together to save themselves from the Modi wave as the countdown for the 2019 elections had started.

He also accused the Opposition of not allowing the Budget session of Parliament to function despite government's efforts to conduct business. The session concluded today.

Shah said that unlike the previous Congress-led regimes, the Narendra Modi and Devendra Fadnavis regimes have not been accused of graft.

The BJP would win the 2019 elections based on the Narendra Modi government’s performance and the BJP organisational strength at the booth-level and not empty promises, he said.
