In an attempt to leave behind controversies and start afresh, the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) is once again gearing up to conduct Class 10 and 12 exams and making elaborate arrangements for ensuring free, fair and smooth conduct of the papers for lakhs of students in the state.

As per the new system put in place by the Board, every examinee will be frisked twice before writing the paper. "The first physical checking will be at the entry gate by magistrates or cops deployed to take care of the security at the exam centre. The second frisking will be done by the invigilators, who will submit in written that the students were not found in possession of any cheats or other inappropriate items. There will be an invigilator on every 25 examinee," said BSEB chairman Anand Kishor.

The board will also introduce new types of answer-booklets and OMR sheets this year in which details such as student's name, roll code and number, subject and exam date etc will be printed on the answer-sheet.

"Earlier, they had to fill 27-28 columns and any mistake increased chances of discrepancy in the results," Kishor said and added, "Around 10 per cent blank answer-books will also be provided at each centre in case there is any mistake in the pre-printed answer-book."

Sources said a similar practice was already followed by the ICSE Board in the country.

Kishor said the Board will also prepare 10 Sets of question paper for each subject for the Matriculation and Intermediate Exams 2019. "This will help in minimising the use of unfair means in the exam hall," a BSEB source said.

"We hope to put BSEB in the category of leading boards in the country by using these latest technologies for implementing the exam reforms," Kishor said.

The evaluation process will also undergo some changes as only those teachers having at least one-and-a-half years of teaching experience will be allowed to evaluate the papers. They will also be given training prior to being engaged in the correction work. The exams will be held in February.
