Commenting on the bypolls' trends in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal on Tuesday said that people have given a befitting reply to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for trying to create communal tensions in the state. "It has just been 100 days, so I wouldn't say much about the new government, but the public is losing faith in Narendra Modi. About the by-polls, I think the people of Uttar Pradesh have given a befitting reply to the BJP for creating communal tensions in the state," Agarwal told ANI here.

Meanwhile, SP leader Rajendra Chaudhary said that he was confident about the victory of his party in Uttar Pradesh. "The Samajwadi Party will form a government in Uttar Pradesh again in 2017, and I am sure that we will get over 300 seats. It will be a victory of democracy, development and the policies of the Samajwadi Party," he said. Counting of votes in three Lok Sabha and 33 assembly constituencies for the by polls began this morning.

BJP is leading at seven out of the total nine Assembly seats that went to polls in Gujarat, while the Congress is leading at two seats. In Uttar Pradesh, the ruling Samajwadi Party is leading at six out of 11 Assembly seats as well as the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat. Vadodara Lok Sabha Seat and Maninagar Assembly seat were vacated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while eight other assembly seats were vacated following BJP MLAs election for Lok Sabha. Polling in Medak Parliamentary constituency was also necessitated due to the resignation of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao from the seat. The assembly by-poll elections were held across ten states on September 13.
