Assembly Polls Result | Rahul Gandhi cannot be blamed for everything, vote bank Politics has won: Congress

The BJP on Saturday headed for a huge win in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand while the Congress forged ahead in Punjab marked by an anti-incumbency wave in the three states while they were locked in a close contest in Goa and Manipur.

According to trends available after three hours of counting of votes in the Assembly elections in the five states, the BJP was leading in 300 out of 400 constituencies in the 403 member Assembly in a stunning showing leaving their rivals far behind.

Speaking to the media, Congress spokesperson Rajeev Shulka said politics of vote bank has won and Rahul alone can't be blamed.

"Politics of vote bank has won and that of development has lost. Rahul Gandhi cannot be blamed for everything. Even we were on the ground campaigning. Though we are losing in UP, we are leading in two states." said Rajeev Shukla.

"BJP is winning in Uttarakhand because of anti-incumbency factory. We were in a straight fight with BJP in Uttarakhand," Shukla added.

The nascent SP-Congress coalition was ahead in 69 seats while Mayawati's party BSP put up a poor show leading only in 17 places. The SP, whose campaign was spearheaded by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on development agenda, led in 58 seats.

Tainted minister Gayatri Prajapati, who is absconding after UP police booked him in an alleged gangrape case and attempt to rape a minor, was leading in Amethi.

In Punjab, the Congress was leading in 65 of the 117 constituencies while the AAP, making a debut in Punjab Assembly polls, and the SAD were locked in a close contest for the second position ahead in 25 and 20 seats respectively.
