Assamese student attack: Will take up matter in Parliament, says BJP leader

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Bijoya Chakraborty on Monday expressed concern over the thrashing of an Assamese student in the Amar Colony area of the city, and said she will take up the issue in parliament. "I will try to take this up in parliament, I will meet the speaker and seek permission," Bijoya Chakraborty said.

"Police still has not arrested anyone yet, the complaint was not event registered properly by the police" she added. She termed Delhi as a 'dangerous' place for the people of the north east.

Meanwhile, reacting to the incident, the victim's uncle said "There were three to four boys in the locality who use to harass him every day. On 4th March, these boys started saying a lot of absurd things."

"He was sitting in the balcony, two boys came and hit him from behind and dragged him down the stairs, he started bleeding heavily and those boys got scared and started shouting thief-thief," he added.

The 21-year-old Assamese student was allegedly beaten up by locals when he was trying to break the lock of someone else's house, mistaking it to be his own, apparently in an inebriated state.

Police have registered a case on his statement and further investigations are on. The CCTV footage of the area is being checked to verify the claims of both parties.
