The Congress on Monday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clear the air on who is the Finance Minister of India as two government websites mention two different persons - Arun Jaitley and Piyush Goyal - as the incharge of the crucial Finance Ministry.

While the PMO website - pmindia.gov.in - lists Jaitley as a Minister without Portfolio, it says that Piyush Goyal holds the charge of Finance and Corporate Affairs portfolios, two ministries allotted to Jaitley before he went on leave following his kidney transplant last month.

On the other hand, Ministry of Finance's website - finmin.nic.in - still recognises Jaitley as the Finance Minister.

Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari, referring to the information available on the two websites,  asked, "Who is Finance Minister of India?"

"PMO's website says one thing, Finance Ministry website tells another story. The gentleman designated without portfolio on the PMO website is holding meetings via video conferencing. PM needs to tell country who is his Finance Minister," he said.

In a Cabinet reshuffle announced on May 14, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal was given the additional charge of the Finance Ministry and Ministry of Corporate Affairs as Jaitley was recovering after undergoing a kidney transplant.

Besides heading the Ministry of Railways, Goyal also has the charge of Ministry of Coal.

Amid ambiguity, Arun Jaitley continues to hold meetings of senior officials of the Finance Ministry. On Monday, he discussed the future course of action for debt-laden Air India with senior ministerial colleagues and officials.

The meeting came weeks after Air India's strategic disinvestment proposal failed to attract any bidders and was attended by Piyush Goyal, Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu, Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and other senior officials.  The meeting was chaired by Jaitley who took stock of the developments related to Air India and discussed the way forward.
