Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the 'ART' of Accountability, Responsibility and Transparency was essential for good governance.

"Accountability, Responsibility and Transparency; this ART is essential for good governance. Several people have done so much for the nation...that is how India has been made," Prime Minister Modi said at the Civil Services Day function.

"Our work is not only to run departments. We have to innovate, modernise within the department as well. The day is not far when the world will look at m-governance or mobile governance. We need to give impetus to reforms and technology," he added. The Prime Minister also advised the civil servants to spend quality time with their families and not let their life become robotic.

"A life full of tension cannot achieve anything, especially when you have to run the nation. You are very good at time management, but do you spend quality time with your family. Please think about this," he said. "Introspect if your life hasn't become robotic because if that happens it affects the government," he pointed out.

Prime Minister Modi also remembered India's first home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on the occasion and called for socio-economic integration.

"We think of a model that gives importance to integration, that brings the people closer to each other. From where I have come and where I have reached, the lesson I take along is 'Sheelam Param Bhushanam' (Character is the highest virtue)," he said.
