People's Conference chairman Sajad Gani Lone -- who is the most watched out leader for the government formation -- met Jammu and Kashmir governor NN Vohra on Wednesday.

The Lone-led faction of People's Conference has two MLAs in the 87-member Legislative Assembly and he is being seen as a key player in the government formation in the state. Another faction of the People's Conference is led by his brother Bilal Gani Lone, who is the Executive Council Member of Moderate Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.

Sajad, former Social Welfare Minister and MLA of Handwara constituency in Kupwara district, met the Governor at Raj Bhavan.

"Lone drew the Governor's attention to certain initiatives, which had been commenced in the Social Welfare and Renewable Energy Departments, including a project to establish a Renewable Energy Corporation, which could be profitably taken forward," said an official spokesman.

Lone, the spokesman said, also discussed with the Governor certain impediments which were delaying the implementation of several important development schemes in the Kupwara district.

"The Governor assured due consideration of the issues raised by Lone and urged him to continue his endeavours for promoting a peaceful environment and work zealously for advancing the interests of J&K", said the spokesman.

Lone is the second key leader to meet the Governor in the last one week. On July 14, key PDP rebel and former sports minister Imran Reza Ansari met Vohra. The meeting of Ansari – MLA from the Pattan Constituency -- with the Governor had come a day after five PDP rebels claimed that they were "the real" PDP and they have lost confidence in the leadership of Mehbooba Mufti.

The fresh meeting comes amid political rumblings over the government formation post the Amarnath yatra.

Insiders said that the BJP is exploring the option of having the first Hindu chief minister from Jammu region in the state. There are also reports that Sajad Lone may get the deputy chief minister post. If sources are to be believed, there will be another deputy chief minister from the PDP rebels to make the government formation an inclusive exercise.

A political formation requires 44 members for simple majority to form the government.
