The friendship which soured several years ago is rearing its ugly head now. In a blistering attack, Amar Singh has squarely blamed Jaya Bachchan for his falling out with Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav.

Speaking to media outlets, Amar Singh confirmed that he had met Mulayam and Akhilesh Yadav recently, but denied any possibility of re-joining the Samajwadi Party (SP). In 2010, Amar Singh was expelled from the SP for alleged anti-party activity. After that he formed a political party and later joined the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) to contest the polls in the last general election. But none of his moves worked out. Hence, his latest actions are being seen as overtures towards the ruling party of India's largest state, Uttar Pradesh.

But it seems like in the process, he is effectively burning all bridges with the Bachchans. Amar Singh and the Bachchan family used to be on great terms and Singh used to call Amitabh Bachchan his “bade bhaiya”. That relationship soured a few years ago for reasons still unknown. Even when Amar Singh was seriously ill, the bitterness lingered on. Singh had earlier expressed his hurt over falling out with the Bachchans, but didn't openly attack them.

But now he has clearly changed his strategy. To create maximum impact, Amar Singh has dragged Amitabh Bachchan into the controversy. Singh has claimed that Amitabh had warned him not to play politics with Jaya Bachchan, saying that she is the most inconsistent person he knew.

Just a couple of days ago, Amar Singh had indirectly referred to Jaya Bachchan as a "broker" and said he didn't need anybody to get back to the SP. Many believe it was Amar Singh who paved the way for Jaya Bacchan's entry into the Rajya Sabha. Amar Singh reportedly helped Amitabh Bachchan when he was in a financial jeopardy in the late 90's.

In politics, there are no permanent friends or enemies and another “insider” has spilled the beans after getting a snub. Ironically, no RJ said anything wrong about Jaya Bachchan this time, it was one of the family's disgruntled friends. Will the Bachchans retaliate and most importantly, will this help in the political rehabilitation of Amar Singh? All ears will now be tuned to this controversy.
