884 Goans surrender right to vote for foreign nationality: Election Commission survey

The survey was conducted between October-December 2015 by the Election Commission to review the voters' list in the state.

A total of 884 people of Goa have surrendered their right to vote in the country to take up foreign nationality, a survey conducted by the Election Commission of India (ECI) found.

"Nearly 15,877 names have been deleted from the voters' list, which include 884 Goan who have opted for foreign nationality," Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Goa, Narayan Navti said.

The survey was conducted between October-December 2015 by the Election Commission to review the voters' list in the state.

Around 5,620 dead people were deleted from the electoral roll. As per the revised list, the state now has a total of 10,84,271 voters comprising 5,48,097 females and 5,36,174 males, he said.

"The Goa office of the ECI had launched a special summary revision under which it has received 24,906 fresh applications for inclusion in electoral roll," Navti added.
