In an interview to BBC, one of the 2012 Delhi rape accused has said that the victim was herself responsible for the horrific incident.

In an interview from jail, Mukesh Singh who was sentenced to death on September 2013 has said, "A girl is far more responsible for rape than a boy." He also says that women who went out at night are to blame themselves if they drew attention from molesters or rapists.

In the interview that BBC will telecast on International Women's Day, Singh also goes ahead to say that "When being raped, she shouldn't fight back. She should just be silent and allow the rape. Then they'd have dropped her off after 'doing her', and only hit the boy."

Singh had denied any involvement in the rape and claimed that he was only driving the bus. But DNA tests proved him wrong and the court awarded him a death penalty with the other accused.

Showing no remorse to his own acts, Singh says that, "You can't clap with one hand. A decent girl won't roam around at 9 o'clock at night...Boy and girl are not equal. Housework and housekeeping is for girls, not roaming in discos and bars at night doing wrong things, wearing wrong clothes."

Singh advises the judiciary to not award death sentences to the rapists as it will only endanger rape victims in the future. He says that previously the rapists would rape and leave the girl, but if death penalty was made stricter the victims would undoubtedly be killed.

The victim of the fateful evening of December 16, 2012, a medical student, was on her way after watching a movie with her friend when six men offered them a lift in a mini bus. The victim was raped repeatedly by the six men and later she and her friend were beaten up by them. The victim succumbed to her injuries in a hospital in Singapore. Protests erupted across the country. In Delhi, protests were staged outside Jantar Mantar, Parliament and Rashtrapati Bhawan where demonstrators and police clashed.
