Two kilogram of heroin was seized by the BSF in an area under the Chanmulla outpost on the Indo-Pak border in Punjab's Amritsar sector, an official said today.

BSF Deputy Inspector General (DIG) R S Kataria said last night, suspicious movement was spotted by troops near the international border.

"When the Pakistani smugglers reached near the border security fence and started throwing some packets over it, the BSF challenged them, but they continued with their aggressive posture," he said.

To stop their "misadventure further and in self-defence, the BSF opened fired on the smugglers". However, they managed to escape taking cover of darkness and the undulating ground, the officer said.

During a search operation, the BSF recovered two packets (about 2 kg) of the contraband, heroin, lying near the fence on the Indian side, said the DIG.
