A 17-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging himself in Thane on Thursday. The body was discovered hanging from a ceiling hook by the boy’s mother.

According to the police report, 17-year-old Niral Nagaria was found hanging from a ceiling at around 8.45 pm when his mother returned from the market.

She quickly raised an alarm and the neighbours rushed Niral to Thane Civil Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The body was returned to the family on Friday after a postmortem was conducted.

A police officer said that they were investigating the reason behind the suicide.

Niral was the only child of his parents. His father Nitesh Nagaria owns a general store in Vartak Nagar. He was studying in his second year of BCom at KJ Somaiya College. “His exams were going on and he was a good student. We are trying to ascertain the reason behind the suicide and see if he was undergoing any treatment for depression. As the family is in a state of shock, we will only be able to begin our investigation tomorrow (Saturday),” the police officer added.
