So, when was the last time you revisited those good, old memories of your college days or even looked at an old photograph and smiled? While most of you must be avoiding recalling your past, studies say that being nostalgic can make you a happier person.

Nostalgia is an anchor that keeps you strongly attached to your past and adds more meaning to your life, says research. By revisiting good memories created in the past, you help your brain to wipe out all those bad memories you have, the ones you keep running away from.

A study by Fritz Strack and colleagues suggested that recalling positive events from the past could affect mood, feeling of happiness and overall well-being in individuals. Nostalgia also has a strong social component. When you think about something nice that happened it the past, you end up having stronger positive feelings and become more generous in the process. And believe it or not, when you feel nice about a memory that you recall, you automatically work towards creating more such memories that you can cherish later on.
