Tobacco products will now carry 85% pictorial warnings as a Central notification comes into effect from Friday all over India.
The Health Ministry's notification of September 24, 2015, for implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Packaging and Labelling) Amendment Rules, 2014, comes into force from Friday onwards. These prescribe larger pictorial warnings on tobacco products.
Earlier, the ministry had made a commitment to the Rajasthan High Court on March 28, 2016 that all tobacco products manufactured from April1 onwards will carry larger pictorial health warnings.
