Hospital shoots to fame after uterus transplant

Soon after the success of the first uterus transplant in India, Pune’s Galaxy Hospital has been approached by who wish to undergo the same operation. In just ten days, as many as 42 women have signed up for the procedure. The country’s first uterus transplant was carried out in Galaxy hospital on May 18, and in a span of two days, two women were operated upon. This feat achieved by the doctors has pushed India’s stature further in the field of medicine.

The operation came as a relief to women who have not been able to conceive due to disorders or diseases that affect their uterus in some way or the other. However, the uterus transplant operation will only be available to women who are married, who have no uterus, or whose uterus has been damaged. Meanwhile, the first two Indian women to have undergone the operation are said to be recovering well and will be soon discharged from the hospital.
