Nothing beats yesteryear actor, RJ and TV host Tabassum’s (aka Baby Tabassum) enthusiasm and energy…not even her age!
In her late 60s, this woman goes down memory lane and reveals what she regrets most in her life. She says, “I’ve always regretted not being able to become a leading actress even though I’ve acted in so many movies. At the age of 16, I had all it takes to become a leading actress. I had the qualities, the figure and the looks but I still couldn’t become a ‘romantic-comedy’ heroine. I was mostly asked to play the hero’s sister or the heroine’s sister.”
And though the Phool Khile Hai Gulshan Gulshan host regrets this, it doesn’t dampen her spirits. After all, she’s one of the judges on Zee TV’s stand-up comedy show Hasne Aur Hasane Ka Tonic — Ladies Special only for a reason — her humour.
And for those of you who didn’t know, Tabassum has already penned 10 joke books in the past in Hindi, Urdu and English. So as a judge, there are a few things that she’s going to keep an eagle’s eye on — the content, presentation and spontaneity of the contestants.
Full of energy, even at this age, Tabassum revealed an incident that recently took place on the sets of this stand-up comedy show (psst…they have already finished shooting for four episodes!). She said, “Once when I got up from the chair (it also had swift wheels) that I was sitting on to judge the show, the chair suddenly went back and I lost my balance. I clung on to a contestant who was right in front of me but unfortunately she also lost her balance and fell on me. People on the sets thought they’ll have to call off the shoot that day because I was injured but I sprung back to action in 10 minutes!”
This incident definitely shows her spirit and the fact that her body still has the resistance power. But ask her what the contestants on her show would get if they win and pat comes a reply, “Instead of the usual trophy that is given on other shows, the woman who scores the highest in each episode here gets a golden belan.” It sure is a thought-provoking trophy!
