Fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani has filed four suits against designers and a few small fashion houses engaged in plagiarism. Tarun says his brand image is getting a hit and that’s leading to losses for him.

Tarun says, “I am losing out on revenue to these fakes. Then these people are also selling poor quality products. People who are buying those without knowing that they are not originals will only blame me for the poor quality.”

He adds, “Getting copyrights and patents is the way forward for the industry. It’s sad that my hard work is being indiscriminately copied by others. I’m losing out on my signature style to some hack.”

Tarun’s key objective now is to find out the source from where plagiarism of collections, style and motifs is happening.

“Definitely someone who works with me is involved in this crime. It could be the karigars, embroiders, printers, factory workers, etc. Everyone is a suspect because it is a racket. It’s become a parallel market and we have to pull the plug or else we will bleed more money,” he says.

Tarun also feels that the court should put such cases on the fast track. “I’m tired of the long drawn legal battles. I hope such cases could be made fast track. Justice delivered soon and the guilty being punished in no time will set examples. Having intellectual property rights is the future for one and all,” he ends.
