There is talk that a desi remake of the hit Hollywood comedy 21 Jump Street (the 2012 version) starring Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra is in the offing. We've learnt that Karan Johar wants to remake the film with a desi twist and cast his two protegés.
The Hollywood film's sequel 22 Jump Street releases in India on August 1. The film opened in the US in June, with the second highest opening ever for an R-rated comedy.
The first film was about two guys - a bookish student (Jonah Hill) and an underachieving jock (Channing Tatum) - who miss their school prom. Seven years later, they meet at police academy and become friends and eventually partners. After a botched-up investigation, they are reassigned, given new identities and are sent to infiltrate a high school to contain the spread of a synthetic drug.
Sid and Varun made their debut in school. It does make sense to cast these two in a back-to-school film, no?
