2. Sattar minute... Sattar minute hai tumhare paas… shayad tumhari zindagi ke sabse khaas sattar minute. This rousing speech by the protagonist in this film made not just the team of girls but even the nation sit up and take notice. Although professional hockey provides the adrenaline (or should we say oestrogen) pumping backdrop, it is the emotional ambition and intimate look at the intermingling human drama that makes up the real milieu of the film. Directed by Shimit Amin this film saw King Khan in a new, restrained and controlled avatar as Kabir Khan who becomes the coach of the Indian National Women's hockey team and leads them to victory.

3. Southall-based football enthusiasts play football, not because they enjoy it, but because it seems like the right thing to do, seeing that their football club might be converted into a shopping mall since their team hasn't won a match in, what, 20 years. In a world where football simultaneously means everything and ultimately nothing, this film (busty item number included) switched between being a relationship drama and sports thriller, sadly turning into one of obligation and ordeal. Audiences left the theater feeling like they were hit with the ball to the head.

4. Two brothers. Both students. One an all rounder; one a carefree lovable scoundrel. One a responsible son looking after the family and the other enjoying life. This iconic movie, starts innocently. Set in a small town, choc-a- bloc with high-school chocolate boys prattling on about puberty, pranking and being Pyjama Chaaps. But one grueling, emotionally, cycle race later, everything changes. The slashing double edge of sports and glory, has the hero peddling to integrity and changing gears for the greater glory of love, family and redemption.

5. The love for cricket supersedes all. A heartwarming story of a deaf and mute boy from a remote village who obsessed with the sport wants to play for the country. The triumph and never say die spirit of the protagonist is a treat to watch. The film scored on account of its earthiness and street quality that one hadn't witnessed in the movies in a long while. Naseeruddin Shah as an ex-cricketer- turned-drunkard- turned-coach added spit and sparkle to the shiny shenanigans. After doing cameos in multiple films the talented Maharastrian mulga, playing the titular title role, finally got a chance to showcase his talent.

6. Fists swing and punch at the air. The punches, have an anesthetizing moving effect on the brain as you watch the original Disco Dancer punch his way through the murky world of prison. The balls of his feet pop up and down as furious fists punch through short bursts of hopefulness. All this, to eventually challenge a reigning champion, and to irrevocably clear his emotionally disconnected legacy - even if it means spitting blood and rectitude into a bucket. Fighting, fighting and more fighting. The movie was brutal, crass and impossible to look away from -- much like a real boxing match.

This film was all sorts of exciting. Armed with a superlative soundtrack this pacy and gripping film had the nation cheering for the underdogs right till the thrilling end.
