Mindy Kaling, the star of hit show The Mindy Project is widely lauded for starting a new trend in typical rom-com genre. She is also appreciated for her quirky dress sense both on and off the show. But what Mindy hasn't been ever praised or complemented for is winning the Nobel Prize for Peace. Yes, you read that right. The incredible thing happened when Kaling was mistaken for Malala Yousufzai in New York.
The New York Times reported that as part of the New Yorker festival, Kaling was taking part in a Q & A session, when suddenly an elderly man came forward and said, "Congratulations on your Nobel". This completely flummoxed the star actor. The elderly man also complemented her for recuperating well from the gun shots. After the tipsy man in his 80s left, Kaling reportedly said, "Did he really think I’m Malala?... And that if I were, I’d be at the Boom Boom Room?”
But we all know that Kaling is a huge sport with a panache for self deprecating humour. So she took the thing in a good spirit and reportedly said that this is the best thing that happened all night. While Kaling made light of the thing, one can't help but thing if the incident had mild racial overtone. Malala and Mindy are completely different in their field of work, age, dressing etc. The only thing which binds them is their South Asian heritage which probably lead to the lazy comparison.
