The night of the 92nd Academy Awards was one to remember not only for its red carpet bonanza but also for some pleasantly happy winners including Joaquin Phoenix winning the Oscar for the 'best actor' for Joker and Korean drama Parasite creating history by winning the 'best picture' and also the 'best screenplay' award. Netizens and fans from around the world have been celebrating this win which is doubly important as culturally it is a very powerful win for non-English movies.

However, a few users on twitter, have now claimed that Bong Joon Ho's award-winning movie is a rip-off from a Tamil movie called Minsara Kanna which featured superstar Vijay and Khushboo.

For the unversed, Parasite is the story of a poor family integrating itself into a wealthy family for economic benefits. The movie since its release has been widely appreciated for questioning deep-rooted capitalism in the world but if one looks at the plot of Minsara Kanna, the Tamil movie also tells the story of a wealthy man who convinces his family members to be employed by the rich family of his lady love.

While one is a love story with similar subplots and the other is a parody of capitalism, fans of both the movies are enjoying arguing on social media.

"As a #Thalapathy fan I want to make a statement both movies r not the same #MinsaraKanna is more about d rich female who does not want any men working for her and parasite is more about the lifestyle of rich & the poor. Please don’t compare like sillies but there are similarities," one user wrote.

While few fans are sure it is 'inspired' and even copied from this Tamil hit, Parasite fans beg to differ.
