Farhan Akhtar speaks abpout his link up with Rock On!! 2 co-star Shraddha Kapoor
Twitter trolling was yet to take its toll and Facebook was the new platform where actors could engage with fans in the year 2008, when Rock On!! released. And Farhan Akhtar, who made his acting debut with the movie and was therefore, exceedingly touchy about anything to do with it, remembers “fighting with people who were completely bitching out the music of the film,” on his page.
Of course, the music of the film went on to become a huge hit once the film had released and people understood the context in which the songs had been sung. Now, the music of the sequel of the film, Rock On!! 2 is out and the actor/singer is hopeful that the audience will make that connection again, especially because the response to this movie’s music has been pretty muted. “This movie’s music is not your off-the-shelf kind. You can’t play it at a party. It’s more mood-related, so it will take time to grow. I stay in touch with the music company and the marketing department of various places. There is a gradual trend of it getting more appreciated and as we get closer to the release, I’m sure it will take on its own meaning,” he says, somewhat defensively.
The actor is happy with the way the sequel has turned out. “There is a lot more thinking that has gone into it because it can’t be anything like the first, so there were certain restrictions. We couldn’t have had a film where the band members can’t get along with each other again. So the plan was to figure out what to do with new talent that comes along. It’s Shraddha’s character that is the catalyst for the band to rekindle their love for music,” he adds.
The mention of the actress brings us to another subject — their alleged link-up. Shraddha and Farhan are not romantically-linked in the movie, but off-screen, their ‘secret affair’ is something everyone seems to be talking about. “I don’t want to give such people more fodder. They can write what they want to, my life is going on the way it’s going. You end up taking such things in your stride and don’t worry about taking such battles to their logical conclusions,” he says. Doesn’t he feel the need to fight people on the social media now, when it comes to these matters? “Well, there have been certain instances when I have found creative imagination quite out there, those I have commented on!” he admits with a smile.
